The Building Consultant Role Defined

Building consultants perform a variety of tasks, both during and after construction. They may even be brought in during the planning stages to help ensure that necessary building codes have been worked into the blueprints and that everything is above-board with the design.

During construction, building consultants work to make sure that the project is moving forward the way it should be. They may check to make sure low-standard materials aren’t being used, that corners aren’t being cut, and that all necessary inspections have been ordered and their findings adhered to.

After construction, a building consultant may be brought on to check for mold or bacteria, examine thermographic temperatures in relation to insulation, or to look for construction oversights that could become problematic in the future.

This professional may be hired by the property owner, the project manager, or the contractor if work quality or materials are suspect.
